Student Design Competition 2025: Welness Activity Center

Project Background

This building program outlines the key design elements for a community health and wellness center aimed at serving the diverse needs of a rural or underserved population. The facility will provide a wide range of healthcare, fitness, and support services in an accessible and welcoming environment. Thoughtfully planned spaces include areas for group activities, private counseling, exercise, and nutrition education, as well as essential amenities for both staff and visitors.

The center is designed to foster community engagement and promote overall well-being, with a focus on accessibility, flexibility, and comfort. Key features include a large group gathering space, a demonstration kitchen, multiple exercise rooms, private counseling and telehealth offices, and a dedicated childcare room for parents. The facility will also offer ample parking, including space for a mobile clinic, to accommodate diverse needs and ensure that healthcare services are available to all, regardless of geographic location.

By integrating both public and private spaces, including ADA-compliant restrooms and shower rooms, as well as convenient storage and administrative areas, the building will provide a functional, supportive environment for individuals seeking to improve their health and quality of life. This program is designed to create a hub for wellness in the community, helping to bridge the gap in healthcare access and create a more resilient, healthy population.
