Design Competitions for

Community College Architecture Program Students

The Coalition of Community College Architecture Programs announces the 2025 Student Design Competition for the design of the Wellness Activity Center, a community center geared at providing health and wellness information for the community. This program is responding to issues currently facing many rural areas of inequities in access to health information resources, including Primary care physicians, dentists, specialist and health literacy.

The need exists to provide rural and underserved communities with access to health care, health literacy and fitness. Many Rural Communities suffer access to adequate health care and knowledge about health choices. The project proposes to intervene in this one site with a multi-use facility that can begin to offer residents access to health information and knowledge as well as provide a space dedicated to understanding and promoting health.

Why a CCCAP Student Design Competition?

Enrollment in architectural design competitions for college students have been restricted to only 3rd year students at accredited schools of architecture. Community college architecture students had no opportunities to participate in nation-wide or similar contests.

Designing is one aspect of an architectural education but it encompasses an integration of the many other aspects including site analysis, plan programming, structural detail, sustainability, CAD skills, and rendering. Entering a competition includes the important aspect of students working as a team within a limited time frame.
